The Branch was formed by WW2 Veterans of the 40th Royal Tank Regiment and was known as The
Liverpool Branch before changing its name to Merseyside Branch in 1963 boasting hundreds of
members, over the years its membership declined to 10 WW2 Veterans and was concidering closing its
doors in 2007 and laying up the Branch Standard in Bootle Town Hall.
This came to the notice of former 1RTR members who vowed never to let this happen and began a
recruitment drive in 2008 bringing it to the notice of other 1RTR members living in Merseyside and
outlying areas, this was very successful with the membership now at 80+ and continues to grow at a very
fast pace making it the fastest growing Branch of the Association ensuring its future for many years to
come.
Merseyside Branch invites all former and serving members of the Armed Forces to join their monthly
meetings at The Vines (Bighouse) Lime Street at 1300hrs on the last Saturday of the month,
please call in for a chat you will receive a very warm welcome.
